Putting On My Brave Face

After several conversations with and lots of support from my cousin, Melvin, I finally decided to let my thoughts and feelings out in the shape of a blog. I have been writing since I was a little girl. Writing is as much a part of me as my heartbeat. From journals and novels to poems and songs (which are often one in the same for me), I write as if I came out of the womb doing so. As weird as this may sound, I fully believe it is best to live life honestly and in most cases, like an open book because you never know what someone else may take from your story but, in the same breath, I sometimes find it difficult to be transparent with most folks. I think I'm translucent at best. Nevertheless, I try and that's my goal with this blog. To share with others the random thoughts that cross my mind on a daily basis, lessons I've learned, etc. Hopefully someone somewhere will feel what I have to say. Here goes. :-)

Brittany's the name. I'm a 25 year old mom of two gorgeous kinky-curly haired little girls and I absolutely adore them. They make everyday an adeventure. I am passionately involved with and devoted to music. I can't go a single day without listening to it. I enjoy working with children and animals, and I love to learn. I believe in family. Even though families don't always see eye to eye, you only get one and I cherish mine. Hmm. Can't think of any other random tidbits I want to share at the moment but I'm sure to have some later. Moving on. :-)

Recently, my cousin passed away. He was only 38. He had a son, a family who loved him dearly, and he was a beautiful person. Losing someone you love is always difficult and I find I'm always driven to take a long hard look at my relationships and if there are some that need mending or some that need ending, I do just that. I reach out to the people I want (and sometimes need) in my life and try to fix whatever may be wrong between us. For those who may be adding negativity or stress to my life, or are just dead weight, I acknowledge the fact that they have served their purpose in my life, I have learned some lesson from them, and our season is over. I used to think I had to please everyone. I don't like confrontation in the least so I often let people have their way to avoid it but after being stepped on one time too many, I got the message. People say life is short but I don't hold that view. Life can be long. It can be decades upon decades long but there's no guarantee so I see no point in wasting today. If there's something you want, get up and go after it. If there's someone you love, tell them. You'll be much happier.

Tis all for now. Thanks for reading.

Love. Peace. Blessings.
